Fernandes Tells BoTs that Protestors = Terrorists!

Thursday’s Washington Post article on the Gallaudet crisis contains this startling quote, allegedly from Fernandes in an email to the Board of Trustees:

“What we are dealing with on campus is anarchy and terrorism. . .”

Fernandes also allegedly made the following comment in regards to if the Board were to terminate her or ask her to resign:

“[T]he University and in particular the Board of Trustees will undergo intense scrutiny from Congress. I venture to guess Congress will ask why you did not perform your fiduciary duties to the University. And you will have to explain.”

Fernandes had also allegedly requested that Board members not resign, as many apparently expressed a desire to do so.

If this email is legitimate, it doesn’t take a genius to read between the lines…Fernandes has gone over the deep end, comparing students to terrorists and essentially blackmailing the Board of Trustees.

I might not hear well but I DO hear a clock ticking close by!

Someone threw an apple and broke a glass within the window at the College Hall.

Please catch that person who threw an apple and explain what they were doing is illegal. Gallaudet is our beautiful home with rich history and someone is being a jerk by throwing things at the window.

Gallaudet alumni are against any form of vandalism on campus. We treat it as our home away from home.

    Hi everyone,

I have been reading on this daily even hours by hours. As it approaches more, I will read minutes to minutes.

After reading this about Jane mentioned terrorist.

Do we call her Jane Saddam???

    How does it sounds?
Not a bad word to describe her for being so stubborn and still going on fighting.
Good thing you all are doing the right thing.

I am way behind all of you. Keep up the work!

  3. HAHAHAHA Says:

I AGREE THE STUDENTS ARE TERRORISTS! WE SHOULD SEND THE NATIONAL GUARD AND SHOOT THESE PROTESTORS!

Terrorists isn’t a pretty word – but look at what’s happening on campus. Protesters say they don’t want to be referred to as terrorists but they are happy that IKJ looked “scared” when faced with the faculty march. So, if you equate FEAR with SUCCESS then you are behaving as a TERRORIST. If you don’t like the word – use different ways to protest. Even if its not the intention of all… people are scared… not just IKJ.

Its not terrorism and it is about social justice.

If it was terrorism then the Homeland Security Agency will be on campus. Fernandes should choose her words carefully. Protesting is also called demostrating and it is nowhere to the term of terrorism. The District of Columbia law enforcement agencies has been impressed with the Gallaudet demostrators and it was a peaceful demostration.

Fernandes is making a mountain out of a molehill with her choice of words.

  6. Margaret Davis Says:

If protestors were terroists they would be using extreme violence. Have they used violence? NO. NONE. Fernandes wants attention. She wants to be seen as the victim who is misunderstood. But really, she is the one doing the misunderstanding. She has to acknowledge that protesters have some valid concerns even if she doesn’t agree with them. That’s what good leaders do. Threatening Board members? That’s desperate!

Vandalism was done on the King Jordan Student Academic Center sign that letters of his name was damaged.

    hayel:

And it’s all too easy to say that it was an act done with the full awareness and approval of the protest leaders when that’s hardly the case but we all know the administration will likely say otherwise.

To compare, when an individual broke a window in College Hall recently, the protestors were quick to identify the individual to DPS.
