I sat back and took a respite once I saw the Washington Post article…Why add to the discussion when Fernandes had obviously committed “career suicide” once her email to the board was made public?
Fernandes labels the protestors as being engaged in anarchy and terror…
Fernandes threatens the Board with Congressional action if they ask her to resign or fire her…
That should have been an open and shut case for her to resign, right?
Apparently not!
The current spin is that Fernandes truly does believe the protests on campus are so disjointed and not unified that it is indeed, according to her, anarchy on campus. Terrorism on campus? According to her, you’re damned right there are terrorists on campus, threatening students left and right, causing property damage, etc. You might as well call the CIA and let them know that Osama bin laden isn’t hiding out in Pakistan anymore, he’s hiding out somewhere on Kendall Green.
And as for the recently reported comment of her being threatened to be shot? Well, it’s already been widely pointed out that such an isolated threat was made in May but is now being reported as if it had just happened. DPS didn’t take it seriously, Fernandes herself admitted that she didn’t take it seriously, but the media sure is!
Either way, I am TRULY flummoxed at why Fernandes is STILL insisting on grasping the golden ring and becoming president.
The only concrete reason I’ve seen her give was that she went home and talked it over with her family, who apparently were outraged at the treatment being given to her. Apparently, her family’s outrage provided her with some fuel to keep on going.
Like that’s a REALLY good reason to stay put.

Is there anyone out there who can shed some reason on why she insists on staying in the face of not just the students, but of the faculty and alumni as well?
It is a foregone conclusion that she cannot govern Gallaudet University effectively considering the various populations against her.
But I still ask, why stick around?!

My family were strong Vietnam War protestors. I recalled one conversation I had with one cousin who was arrested and put in jail. He pointed out the real issue of the war – it started with protecting American business interests in Vietnam. Yes, there were American businesses in Vietnam that far back.
Now I am beginning to wonder if Jane’s steadfast ways have to do with protecting some business interests that we do not know about? I am just looking at the larger picture here – think of one of her statements: BoT will have to answer about their fiduciary duties. This seems to be an implied threat, and seems to say something else without revealing the truth…..
If it has nothing to do with protecting business interests, then I will have to agree with some bloggers out there – she is simply a she-Hitler.

PI, let me help you out. You need not be flummoxed any longer. The reason President-Select Fernandes and the Board of Trustees are staying put is crystal clear. Dr. Fernandes loves Gallaudet and feels she is the best and ONLY person who can lead Gallaudet, especially right now that all these issues have burst into the open. Dr. Fernandes has been attending carefully to the concerns raised by the protestors, meeting with concerned students, faculty, staff, and alumni, and once this is all over, she will implement an action plan to address those concerns. Dr. Fernandes is a true mover and shaker. She knows how to make things happen, and she has just one year to make it happen. The sooner the protestors move aside and let her do the job, the better off Gallaudet will be.

I agree, there is something financial underlying all of this. The problem is her threat was incredibly stupid, because now there should be a financial audit of Gallaudet’s and the BoT’s activities. The protesters should be highlighting this demand — money talks, both ways.

OOPS!! The stupid bitch did threaten the board. My guess is that this is about that
alleged $4 million dollars that went missing. This was allegedly reported to the board
twice and the board did nothing. She very well may have some documentation to back up this blackmail. This would also explain why IKJ would still be supporting her after
all this opposition. Has she been blackmailing him all this time?? Stranger things have happened. She got away with this with him so why not try it with the board??
