Senator John McCain – Influential BoT?

“If you are looking to me for a comment on the faculty vote, I believe it is long past the time for the Board to make it clear that the Board, not the faculty, runs the university,” she wrote. “The Board needs to make it clear to the faculty, students, staff and alumni that they don’t run the University, the Board does. I am truly at a loss for why this has not been made clear before.” – Fernandes’ alleged comment in an email to the Board of Trustees

I think this the FIRST time that Fernandes and the protestors finally have something in common! Getting the Board of Trustees to step up and accept its responsibilities!

The Board of Trustees has the power to rescind its offer to Fernandes. Reporting indicates that the board is massing enough momentum to do so.

Pressure still needs to be exerted on the Board, especially those who are our elected representatives in government!

Particularly John McCain, Senator from Arizona, who has aspirations for the U.S. Presidency and has remained silent all this time! He is perhaps the most influential voting member on the Board of Trustees.

Let him know that his failure to take up his responsibility as a Gallaudet Board Member may result in the deaf community thinking lesser of him should he run for president!

Politicans running for office are acutely sensitive in alienating any potential voting bloc.

Let McCain know how you feel by filling out the form here:

Be heard by those who haven’t given the impression of listening so far!

Here comes more threats and attacks for the protesters to get their way. When will you all realize that you are killing your own cause.
Their are laws that govern everything. I realize some of you believe these laws do not pertain to you but guess what, THEY DO!!!
The presidential search commitee put in place to find a new pres. narrowed their seach down to three people. JKF was picked to be the next deaf, woman president.
Hello, everyone out their in the JKF bashing club. The people on the search committee
were your own peers of students, faculty and alumni. Why did your own peers recommend JKF in the final three. BECAUSE SHE IS THMOST QUALIFIED. Go ask your peers what happened and stop the embarrasing actions we have seen from all of you the last six months.

Everybody, please do go right ahead and contact Senator John McCain. I know he will be soooo impressed with your persuasive arguments. After all, the BoT has received nothing but insults, threats, and ridiculous demands from the protestors. I find the messages to the BoT members telling them about violations of the US Constitution, the Bill of Rights, free speech, right of assembly, etc., as well as comparisons to the American Revolution, the civil rights movement, and the war against Iraq most compelling. Don’t hesitate, folks — John McCain is sitting by his computer waiting to hear from you. He can do nothing but act immediately on these grave matters.

John McCain? I’d never vote for him, period. Do contact him but expect NOTHING from him!

You gotta be kidding me. McCain is the kind of politician that no sane thinking person (“right thinking” doesn’t quite work in this context) would EVER consider voting for. I wouldn’t care if McCain personally saved Gallaudet, sweeping in like a knight on a horse — I would never in a million years vote for that snake.

I believe in Washington Post he was quoted to have said to support Fernandes. I am from AZ and I am working on others to collect signatutes to write an open letter to him. I am appalled he serves on a board for an institution he knows nothing about.

  6. LOL Says:

John McCain must be shaking in his boots?? HaHa He must know that 90% or more of deaf voters vote Democrat so why should he worry about losing deaf votes? Yes write your members of congress and let them see first hand what they have been reading in the newspapers and their staff reading on blogs and help them lose whatever respect they have had for deaf people. Don’t forget to send him the link to the Washington Post editorials and deny that you are part of a mob.

If you dont live in Az or have an Az address his site wont let you write him an email.Thats not to say you should not try to contact him. Maybe a little demo in front of his office would get his attention, But PLEASE dont insult the guy before you
even know how he might vote. I can see by the above responses that people are reacting to the idea he would get interested and involved. With that said-understand
that I fully support this protest. May God be with you all!
