In the previous posting of a Washington Post online article, Susan Kinzie disclosed more of what Fernandes said in her email to the BoT. One statement Fernandes made was:
“I hope you will not sign a Minority Report. . .”
What does having the BoT autographing a DVD copy of a pretty good sci-fi movie have to do with the issues of Gallaudet?
Absolutely nothing.
Fernandes is actually referring to a possible action by members of the BoT. The Oregon legislature states it as simply as possible:
“A minority report is a committee report (See Committee Report) written by at least two committee members who are in the minority on the issue in question on a particular bill (NOT necessarily in the political minority party) for the purposes of officially stating their position on the issue.” – http://www.leg.state.or.us/glossary.html#M
In other words, Fernandes is telling the board members to not even think of officially showing that the Board is divided. Fernandes must have learned a lot from IKJ in how to cow the BoTs into complying with her demands.
It is up to each and every individual member of the Board of Trustees to vote based on their own judgment on what is best for Gallaudet and certainly not voting on how the current president, I King Jordan, or president-designate, Fernandes, would like.
Otherwise, it just reinforces the notion that the Board of Trustees has been particularly remiss in their duties as board members by allowing Jordan and Fernandes to call the shots…pardon the pun.

Wow.
I can’t even imagine telling people who “PICKED” (if that’s what you call it) me what to do.

Hey, if Andy Lange can make us groan with his shooting puns, I want to do so as well!

So is this another situation of a minority report showing the flaws in the system (and the potential for corruption. Who’s going to have to bite the bulet?
I don’t actually understand the politics here (I’m UK based and currently trying to learn more about America Politics), but this is what the Minority report does in the original Philip K Dick short story (read it…its much better than the film, not least because it shows that Tom Cruise’s character should’ve been balding and middle aged..I love Hollywood). Just thought it would be amusing in an unrelated case where someone used the same term.
