Moore and Goodstein Acknowledge that Protests were NOT about Deaf Politics!

It’s been no big secret among the Deaf community that Jordan and Fernandes have been repeating a gross distortion of the reasons for the protests to the mainstream media and public: That this was all about cultural identity and “not being deaf enough.”

However, I am pleased to see that Gallaudet’s interim provost and a board member have been willing to step up and refute the adminstration’s lies.

The media has, and will continue, to re-state Jordan’s and Fernandes’ comments as reasons for her termination.

Spread the word to show the media that this is not true!

“Michael Moore, interim provost, said after the meeting the university needs to go through a healing process. When asked if the protest had been caused over “deaf politics,” as has often been charged by Fernandes and Jordan, he said, “No. It was not about deaf politics and learning to sign late in life.”

One trustee, Harvey Goodstein, also denied that the protest had erupted over deaf politics as claimed by Fernandes and Jordan. “A lot of people felt that Jane [Fernandes] could not be an effective leader,” he said.”

Mr. Moore and Mr. Goodstein, while I wish you had made these comments much earlier, I still applaud you both for your brave comments.

With your comments, you both have earned the lost respect of many of us that Jordan and Fernandes desperately sought out.

Again, spread the word!
