As reported by Mishka Zena and Bibliomarket, BoT Member Ken Levinson has once again revealed his insensitivity and elitism towards the Deaf community.
This is supposed to be a person representing the best interests and welfare for Gallaudet University as a board of trustees member? If Levinson wishes to do what’s best for Gallaudet’s interests and welfare, he would immediately submit his resignation.
Otherwise, the BoT needs to take action:
“Section 2.2.10 Removal. The Board, by vote of a majority of all Voting Trustees then in office, is authorized to remove any Trustee (except the Public Members) who may refuse or neglect to discharge the duties of a Trustee, or whose removal, in the judgment of said majority, is in the interest and welfare of the University. Notice of any proposed removal shall be provided to all Board members at least ten days in advance of such vote.”
There is no question that, if Levinson will not resign, it is in Gallaudet’s best interest and welfare for the BoT to remove him.
The board and administration has repeatedly said that it is now time to heal the wounds and divisiveness that has fractured the Deaf Community and yet we have Levinson, as a board member, still wounding and alienating the Deaf Community with his incredibly offensive comments.
Levinson has got to go. His continued presence on the BoT is a festering wound that cannot heal until he gives up or is removed from his seat.
Send an email asking for Levinson’s resignation or removal to Patti Kunkle, Board of Trustees Liaison, at patti.kunkle@gallaudet.edu and request your correspondence to be forwarded to the Board for action.
However, do keep in mind that the BoT bylaws also say that any communication to the Board “shall be presented to the President for review and recommendations before presentation to the Board; provided, however, that any person may report directly to the Board any material misappropriation of University resources.”
So, unless Bernie Holt comes out and reiterates his claim of fiscal misappropriation by the University, which is another issue entirely, Patti’s boss, IKJ, gets to read your correspondence and make recommendations to the Board.
How’s that for impartiality?

Absolutely, he has to go. Period! It is time to eradicate deaf audists and elites. They are the ones hurting the Deaf community at large!

I asked people in San Francisco. They did not know who was he. He lives in the city of SF or nearby. If the community does not know him, why is he on the BOT? He does not represent us at all. And I know all the time that he was snob and elitist. He does not fight for us. Let him resign… or terminate him now…

I’m saddened by Ken Levinson’s negative, depreciating comments toward non-speaking D/HH people. If Mr. Levinson is allowed to stay on the Board of Trustees, he is sure to take over the entire thought-manufacturing division, and virtually all thought will be of a negative nature. The wise thing to do may be to ask Mr. Levinson to politely resign. We don’t need him. We don’t want him around telling us D/HH people can’t, D/HH people are not up to it, D/HH people will fail, and so on. Mr. Levinson won’t help Gallaudet move forward, so boot him out.

I just learned that Ken has been Gally board member for 18 years. Is it true? If so, then it blew out my brain. In most cases, BoT members of many different colleges can be served up to six or four years according to their own limit terms Bylaws.
Also I firmly believe that he must be resigned or removed immediately because of a long overdue
Without doubts, he is so unfit member with his oddball personality when the era of Gallaudet University enters into new enlightment of the 21st century Deaf community which promotes our ASL to be fully respected and recognized as equality to the English literacy

6 days later.. no one gave me the e mail address of levinson? i like to bombard him with my e mails.. telling him to leave Gally people alone. he does not need to be on the bot and can’t sign at all. i finally saw him on video.. he can’t sign… believe it or not, he can’t sign.. and he thinks lowly of deaf people. time for him to go.. please give me his addy. thanks.

The only thing is to have the removal of the position under Ken Levinson which is to gather all evidences. It can be arise the issues toward to BoT members for the action as recognizing of his malfesasance. It indicates the conflict of interests as BoT.
